If your voice coach never explained
what happens in your voice — they're not teaching you.
I'm Mario Santa Ana, a voice coach with more than 20 years in professional musical theatre.
I coach in English and in Spanish — in person here in Mexico City, and online anywhere in the world.
I won't have you repeat scales without telling you why. In the first session I tell you exactly
what is happening in your voice — and why nobody had told you before.
No pain. No fatigue. Just your voice working the way it should.

I'm not the typical singing teacher who sits at the piano and hands you scales.
I've spent more than 20 years on musical theatre stages in Mexico — performing, directing, and coaching. Shows every week, rehearsals, full theatre runs and concerts. I know what it is to reach week three and feel your voice stop responding.
That's why I don't teach what I read in a book. I teach what I lived.
My method, Bio-Vocal Coaching™, does what no other voice coach in Mexico City offers: diagnose first, release second, and only then train. Before I ask you for a single note, I need to know which muscle, which habit, which tension is holding your voice back. Without that, we're not teaching — we're guessing.
See my credentialsThe stage taught me more
than any conservatory.
There are things you only learn when your voice has to perform eight times a week — and if it fails, the whole production fails.
+20 years in professional casts
Shows Monday through Sunday. Ten-hour rehearsals. Four-month runs. I learned that the voice is not just technique — it's stamina, adaptation, and knowing when the body needs real help.
MVT Level 3 · Applied Vocology · Voice Care Centre UK
I use these certifications in every session. In Modern Vocal Training I reached Level 3, Certified Advanced Vocal Coach. At the Voice Care Centre in the UK I trained in person with Stephen King and Robert Price, the two creators of the method, in laryngeal manipulation and manual therapy applied to the voice. On top of that I built my own work: Bio-Vocal Coaching™. Credentials can be matched. A way of working cannot.
Laryngeal physical therapy applied to singing
I work physically on the muscles of your larynx — tensions, compensations, patterns you built up without noticing. Nobody solves that for you with scales at the piano.
I was part of professional musical theatre casts for more than two decades. Recordings. Auditions. Directors who demanded — and were right to demand.
That's what shaped me as a voice coach: not with theory, but hands-on, when an entire cast's voice had to hold up so a production wouldn't collapse.
Today I work with singers, musical theatre actors, voice actors and speakers who need their voice to work — not to sound pretty for three minutes and then disappear.
"After 20 years on stage, what I learned is this: every larynx has its own map of tension. If you don't diagnose it first, you're guessing."
Mario Santa Ana · Bio-Vocal Coaching™Why isn't your voice improving, even though you practise every day?
The voice coach who only gives you scales
They tell you to "support more" or "open your mouth wider" — without explaining why. You repeat generic exercises that were never designed for your larynx. Months later you're in the same place, or worse: with vocal fatigue, built-up tension, or fear of certain registers.
Bio-Vocal Coaching™ — Mario Santa Ana
I don't guess. I diagnose. Before I ask you for a single note, I work physically on the muscles of your larynx to release tensions that no exercise can resolve on its own. When the body works — the hardware — technique flows on its own.

Vocal damage begins in silence.
By the time you can hear the damage in a voice, it is late. Your muscles fire between 50 and 600 milliseconds before the first note comes out — and there, in the instant nobody hears, is where the tension that will hurt you months later gets installed.
That is why I never rely on a single signal. Sometimes the tension is audible. Sometimes it shows up on the spectrogram. Sometimes it appears on no screen at all and it is in your posture, in a gesture, in where you look when you go for the high note. And sometimes I only find it with my hands.
Two voices can sound almost identical and one be tense while the other is free. My job is to read all of those elements at once and know which one is holding you back. That is the first thing I do with you, before I ask you for a single note.
Acoustic blindness
It is not that sound lies — it is that sound only tells part of the story. You can have a clean spectrogram and a locked neck. I gave that name to what happens to anyone correcting their voice through a single channel of information, almost always the ear, and not understanding why they are not moving forward.
I presented this research — “The Shift from an Acoustic to a Preventive Approach” — at the World Voice Teacher’s Expo, May 2026, to voice teachers from a dozen countries.
Bio-Vocal Coaching™
It's not a lesson. It's a four-phase process.
A vocal assessment before any exercise. We identify which muscle, habit or tension is holding your voice back — with data, not assumptions.
Applied laryngeal physical therapy. Hands-on work on the muscles of your neck and larynx to release tension that no vocal exercise can resolve on its own.
Neuromuscular training. Once your larynx is free, we install the right coordination — high notes, stamina, projection and mixed register.
Your voice is free — now make music. Style, vocal identity and interpretation. The instrument properly tuned, ready for what the stage demands.
Certifications I use in every session
These are the tools I work with from day one.
It's not that you "sing better."
It's that your voice stops being a problem.
And that changes everything.
The students who work with me don't leave here with new repertoire. They leave with something more useful: a voice that answers when they need it, without pain, without fear, without fatigue.
The goal isn't for you to sound like someone else. It's for you to sound like you — with no time limit, no register that cracks, no show that leaves you hoarse.
And yes: that takes time. There's no magic lesson. But the first time you walk on stage and your voice doesn't betray you — that's when you understand why it was worth it.
"Your voice isn't a limit. It's your instrument. It just needs someone to tell it exactly what's holding it back."
What people say who already went through it
Real results · Real studentsI work from Los Angeles and I had my doubts about whether something this specific would work over video. It works. Mario sees things on a screen that others miss in person. I've been working online for six months and it's the best investment I've made in my voice since I left Mexico.
I'd been in pain when singing for a year, and three different coaches had told me it was tension and to keep practising. Mario was the first one to touch my larynx, feel what was happening, and explain it to me like an adult. In four sessions I understood more about my voice than in my whole career.
I could sing, but I didn't know how. I had technique by ear and a lot of habits that were actually hurting me. What surprised me most was that Mario didn't give me exercises on day one — he diagnosed me. That changed everything. I have two full runs behind me now and my voice holds.
Two paths. It depends on what your voice needs.
